About Agape Center

Kollam (previously called Quilon), in Kerala where we reside, is an ancient seaport town and renowned for its scenic lakes, beautiful backwaters and dense forest mountains. However, it is grappling with social evils and there is a pervading sense of futility which is reflected in a rising number of suicides and substance abuse.

We are a team of professionals including educators, doctors, lawyers and trained counsellors keen to serve this society which is dangerously drifting from its value systems. Modernity seems great but generation M (stands for mobile!) is on a slippery slope. We strongly felt that we should walk the talk and formed the AGAPE CENTER to give shape to this burden burning in our hearts.

Agape Center as a welfare and social upliftment Trust started functioning in the city of Kollam from September 2013. It began with many objectives but right from the start, our activities began to lean towards child upliftment and child care. We really got involved in school life skill programs (which does not happen throughout the year, though) and in the area of counselling especially with issues related to children and youth. Our team of counsellors and health professionals did a remarkable work in this field of work and won accolades from the district authorities.

WHAT WE DO

Re-Casting Our Vision

After the Covid period, we evolved into an organisation that focused on child needs and in 2022, Agape Center conducted a full day Symposium on Autism and Behavioural Problems in Children. In our modern society, it is distressing to see how children are being affected with myriad of issues which seem to have no quick answers. One big area is developmental disorders which are becoming increasingly common and complex. Some of these disorders need a societal response and the contribution of medical science is severely limited. We have realised that certain initiatives can have far reaching benefits, simply by removing false assumptions and bringing in a new mindset. These children need our compassion and care. These parents need our collective response. We have decided to gear all our efforts towards this cause and our aim is to function as a full fledged resource for children with various developmental and physical diabilities. This project christened "KOODE" which we hope to launch more fully in the early months of this year, will be the crown of our venture in serving the community.
